A bit of a late review but a couple of weeks ago I went to see Leon Rosselson at the Hove Folk Club. The clubs home is the Eclipse pub in Hove and takes place in the upstairs function room. It is a small room with room for about 20 to 30 people in it. The performer simply stands down one end with the crowd sat at tables. The hosts are Robb Johnson and the author Robert Rankin, though the latter didn't make an appearance that night.
The evening began with a couple of numbers from Robb followed by by an open mike slot by one of the regulars. Leon did two sets of old school political folk songs, the sort they sung around the barricades back in the 70s. Also won a prize in the raffle, which was nice.
The sort of acts they book seem to be trad folk acts and if news of its existance reaches outside of poets corner then they may have to get a larger room. Well recommended.
