Expo Brighton

Did I mention there is another music festival this weekend? It is called Expo Brighton and is of the more experimental kind of music. It is taking place in various venues around town and features ...
Three days of people enjoying, creating, playing, sharing, discovering, participating and listening to sonic art.

Featuring Aleks Kolkowski, John Wall, Blood Stereo & Ludo Mich plus the best emerging artists back to back with some of the leading figures in UK sonic art playing things you’ve never heard before (and maybe never will again).

Hip Hop Festival Back

After a bit of trouble last year, the annual Brighton Hip Hop festival is back in town. Renamed Rising Styles it runs from the 4th to 13th of July at venues all over town. It features the usual mixture of graffiti, Battle Jams, Block Parties and Poetry Slams and there is a free CD being given away with the July issue of Hip Hop Connection.

How many festivals is that in Brighton now?

Slow Furl @ Lighthouse

Weird one this. They have covered the entire surface of the Lighthouses exhibition space with a layer of soft material and are inviting the public to come in and interact with it. I suppose as more people walk over it oand touch it, the shape and feel of it will change. Probably more interesting to see with before and after pictures or a stop motion recording of it.

Runs 18 June to 19 July 08, Wed to Sun 11-5pm

UK Rock Poster Explosion Tour with BRAG

There is an exhibition of the finest UK and US gig posters coming to the Fringe Basement in Brighton this month. The US side is provided by the Firehouse Kustom Rockart Company who do posters out of San Francisco. It should be worth seeing as the the average US gig poster is a lovely 4 colour screen print as opposed to the dodgy photocopies we get over here.

It is organised by BRAG and runs from the 20th to 22nd June.

Adur Festival Started

The Adur Festival started this weekend along the coast in Shoreham by Sea. It's a bit like the Brighton Festivals slightly more sedate uncle and it runs through most of June. It features the usual mix of art and events. The big music names this year are Eliza Carthy and Chris Jagger. The former being one of the staples of the young british folk scene and the latter being the brother of a certain Mick Jagger. Comedy hilights are the local treason Show team and the TV comic Michael McIntyre.
