There is an interesting story in the Metro about how art has been used to combat vandalism in Brighton.
Pictures of a lovely blue sky with white fluffy clouds have been stuck over the windows of the derelict Lion & Unicorn pub on Wilson Avenue. Since the pictures by Stig Evans went up the vandals have left the place alone.
"Mr Evans, who consulted people living in the area about his designs, said: 'They wanted something uplifting and liberating and this works in several ways. It is escapism, really.' "
This is a really good example of public art being used to turn something that is probably an eye sore into something a bit nicer to look at. It would be nice if all derelict buildings could be brightned up in some way.
